Dogs have always played a huge role in my life and I always knew I wanted to work with them. My chance came the day I found a puppy in an alleyway behind my place of employment who was scared, neglected and physically abused. This pup gave me the opportunity to reach out to people who had the education and experience to teach me how to rehabilitate and train a fearful, aggressive dog. Since that day eight years ago, I never looked back – quitting my job in the medical field and dedicating myself to helping hundreds of dogs and owners.
In 2012, I became highly involved with Travis County Search and Rescue in Austin, TX training my first live find, air scent search and rescue dog, Sammie. Sammie is currently certified through National Search Dog Alliance as a live find area search and rescue dog (previously certified with International Police Working Dog Association). In January 2015, I added Jax, a beautiful German Shepherd, to my household to start training as a human remains detection dog. Jax certified in November 2016 through National Search Dog Alliance earning his Land Human Remains Certification. Sammie, Jax and I currently serve with Alpena County Search and Rescue in Alpena, MI. Being able to serve my community with both of my partners and help bring loved ones back to their families is the greatest reward.

Board and Train Programs
What makes Great Lakes Canine Services, LLC different from other boarding facilities is that your dog lives with us in a home environment and is treated the way we would want our own personal dogs treated. We choose to have limited availability to ensure that we can give every dog that comes to stay with us personal attention and a stress-free experience. Our specialty is not just boarding your dog while you are away but giving them a home away from home. Not only will your dog be able to enjoy an at-home environment during their stay, but they also will be able to enjoy interaction with other dogs and playing their days away in our half-acre fenced in yard. If your dog loves to run and play, Great Lakes Canine Services is the perfect place to stay.
“When Kelly and I first met Grace, our pup was just a few months old. We were already struggling with control of our dog and it was incredibly frustrating. Grace is truly responsible for the awesome dog that Pancake has become. Grace’s knowledge of dog behaviors and her ability to teach positive habits are first-class. Grace is honest with you as an owner and she certainly has a natural talent for dog training. I take Pancake to the park regularly and fellow dog owners compliment me on how well my dog behaves. I trust Pancake off leash, around kids and other dogs and these are my rewards for training with Grace. As for boarding, there is no one I trust more than Grace. I boarded with her on several occasions, whether for a weekend or extended period of time. She worked with me and my work schedule, even if it was short notice. But the best part was that Pancake was literally excited to see Grace! With that kind of reaction, my mind was at ease.”Richard G.
“We used Grace’s services for training as well as multiple boarding events. Let me just say that I cannot say enough great things about Grace and her care of my girls Tory and Charley! My dogs are like family, and even though I was a little apprehensive to leave them while on vacation, I was completely at ease while they were under her care. I had the complete piece of mind that my girls were in a safe, clean and comfortable home instead of a sterile kennel where they wouldn’t receive as much attention. Grace also took time to send me occasional photo and video updates, which was a much appreciated gesture. Not only did she provide a caring home, her training skills were top notch – she clearly has a God-given talent to work wonders on my stubborn and spoiled dog Tory. Grace is truly exceptional! She is very reliable, honest and professional; I highly recommend her without ANY reservations.”Jana R.
“My experience with Grace Jackson was very rewarding. Her training skills with my dog have changed my life. My dog, Cowgirl, is a border collie so she had so much energy to over come to get a calm and reliable dog that I am very proud of. I have received so many praises on my dog, and it is thanks to Grace.”
“Grace provided our family with careful and heartfelt service. When we needed a trainer who could help us develop the skills necessary to manage and care for an emotionally injured rescue dog, she was there for us with an expertise bereft of hesitation. In a variety of settings, both individual and group, Grace would always offer her considerable knowledge and skillset to help us nurture a healthy and active home for our pets. We are forever grateful for, and honored by the assistance and care she showed to our dogs, treating them always with a respect and concern to rival her very own.”
